Homework due thursday 2/10

Students please read reading # 62 for homework. You are just reading for general comprehension. We will be having a scanning and skimming quiz tomorrow on this reading so you do not need to take notes or try to memorize anything from the reading.

Thanks

Weekend Homework

Students, I will not be in class on Thursday 1.27.11. We will be having a presentation, do a reading and a listening and if we have time we will do a speaking.

Your homework is to do something similar to what we did with homeostasis. You are going to take what you learned from the reading in class (#41) and the Listening (#5) (all of these are in your packet, so missing class is not an excuse to not do the assignment). You will be doing a voice recording of you giving a summary of what you learned. It shouldn't be very long 1-2 minutes is just fine. Hopefully, you will have time to practice in class with a partner. This activity will help you synthesize information which is a valuable skill for university studies and is something that you will need to do in your future courses.

News Report # 3 is also due on Monday before class (every Monday there is one due, feel free to send early if that is easier).

Also read #42,43,44,45 for general comprehension. At the end of each reading write a couple sentence summary (not long sentences) just the main points. I will be checking to see if you wrote a summary. So you should have at least 8 sentences written on Monday for credit (2 sentences each reading)

Reading Due Wednesday 1/26

For Wednesday please read about the digestive system (reading # 32) and be prepared to have a quiz on it. You may take notes and use those notes on the quiz.

Homework Due Monday 1/24

Student's don't forget to do your homework for Monday.

News Report # 2 is due by email to me before the beginning of class. Please use wmp or the www.vocaroo.com site. Remember it should be on a science topic and should be around 1.5-2.5 minutes long.

Reading # 27, 28 and 29. There will not be a quiz on these readings because we wont have time on Monday, however please read them for comprehension and to learn new vocabulary. The video we will be watching on Monday is related to the immune system so these readings will serve as background knowledge.

I updated your grades and will be sending out an email with your number. Please do not forget your number. A number of you have not been turning in homework assignments and you will see that this has greatly affected your grade.

See you Monday

Listening # 2 Prosthetic Limb Technology due Tuesday beginning of class

For this Tuesday please listen to the following link and answer the questions from the Listening #2 handout.
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/science/july-dec06/amputees_09-19.html

Also, don't forget to have a news report ready to share with the class on Tuesday (1.5-2.5 minutes)

(There are multiple ways to watch this video, you can download a plugin and watch the video, or you can listen to the audio on your real player, or if none of those options work the text is also on the page so you can just read it. Try to listen to it first though, so it is a listening exercise)

Homework 1/12

For your homework today I want you to watch the following video on Homeostasis. (You may need to download a plug-in for it to work)

http://health.howstuffworks.com/human-body/systems/endocrine/adam-200092.htm

After you have watched the video I would like you to go to this website
www.vocaroo.com

This is a site where you can record your voice and email your recording to me. We will be using this site to do speaking homework (or you can use another voice recording software and email the file to me, like windows media player which is in the computer lab at the elc).

Please explain what is homeostasis based on our in class reading and this video. There is no time limit on this exercise, but I will be grading you on completeness. If you can explain what homeostasis is in 1 minute that is fine with me as long as it makes sense and shows me that you learned something from the reading, listening and video from the past few days in class

This should work

Hello Students! I made this blog for us to post comments on videos and readings that I will post here for homework.
